We have seen that functional confectionery in 2004 has become a dynamic part of the United States confectionery industry with new products being launched in very large numbers. One estimate of the bar category including breakfast, granola and health bars, sold in grocery, drug and mass merchandiser stores, is that in 2003 its sales volume was over $1.8 billion, with an increase of 17 percent over 2002.
