Candy manufacturers had major regulatory requirements to meet last year, including trans fat and allergen labeling. Fortunately, the industry has a brief reprieve from new regulations,so this is a good time for candy companies to go back and confirm that all candy labels are in compliance with current regulations. It’s also a good time to look ahead to regulations and guidances from FDA that may impact labeling of colors and quality control procedures for heavy metals in the future. Current requirements along with recent developments in labeling and quality control are described below.
