Currently, the confectionery industry is aware that sugar is in the media spotlight.This is emphasized by the more recent requirement to identify Added Sugars on a package, as mandated by the FDA Nutritional Labeling Guidelines. With the new labeling, there is bold emphasis on total calories on package as well .Additionally, we see a regulatory wave approaching the United States as it relates to reduction in calories, and in total and saturated fat. As confectionery producers, our products fall under this expectation.The reduction in calories can be achieved by reducing sugar or potentially decreasing fat in confectionery products.
